the pythagorean theorem has to do with right angled triangles -> [tex] a^{2} [/tex] + [tex] b^{2} [/tex] = [tex] c^{2} [/tex] , where c is the hypotenuse length (the longest side, not touching the right angle) and a & b are the other sides that do touch the right angle, the legs.
