The major reason that Parliament imposed new taxes on the American colonies after 1763 was D. to pay or the cost of the French and Indian War. This war (also known as the Seven Years War) took place in the North American frontier and thus cost the British a great deal of money to operate an army abroad for such a long time. As such, they began levying taxes upon the colonists to pay for their protection.
