Perimeter calculations can use sum and product
since you add the sides some of which are the same you can use both methods
EXAMPLE
IN A SQUARE ALL SIDES ARE THE SAME SO YOU CAN USE ADDITION
S+S+S=S+S= 4S
OR
4 (S)= 4S
