In order to reduce or simplify to the lowest terms, you need to first find the GCF (greatest common factor) of the two numbers.
The factors of 8 are:
1, 2, 4, 8
The factors of 32 are:
1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32
The common factors are:
1, 2, 4, 8
The greatest common factor is 8
So now that we have 8 as our GCF, we just divide both our numbers by 8.
8 ÷ 8 = 1
32 ÷ 8 = 4
8/32 = 1/4
