The Byzantine Empire was finally destroyed by the Turks. This happened in 1453 when Constantinople, the capital of the Byzantine Empire, fell to the Ottoman (Turkish) Empire. Even today, Byzantium/Constantinople is one of the largest cities in Turkey after it was won by that country. Hope I helped! :) Cheers!
