Why did framers provide that federal judges could hold office for life

The main reason for this decision is that the framers did not want federal judges corruptible. Since judges are supposed to be impartial and focus strictly on the law, if they were reelected from time to time, they would be tempted to sway their opinions based on the will of the public.
