If an organic compound has -ol at some point in its name (such as Glycerol, Methanol, hexan-2-ol) then it contains one or more Hydroxyl Groups. This functional group consists of a Hydrogen bonded to an Oxygen, and the Oxygen is also bonded to some point on the Carbon chain.

The name for this series of compounds is the Alcohols.
