5 significant figures
1. never count zeros in front of the decimal
2. always count non zeros and zeros in between of two non zeros.
3. count the trailing zeros if there is a decimal
for example:
300 has 1 significant figures
0.70005 has 5 significant figures
0.880 has 3 significant figures
