A junta would most closely be related to the political concept embodied by the term oligarchy. An oligarchy is a political structure in which a small group of individuals maintain all of the power in a country. An oligarchy is similar to a junta in that a junta is a small group of individuals usually military personnel who control the power in a country. Therefore, junta and oligarchy share many similar connotations.
