Arguably the most important geographical feature that was gained through the purchase of the Louisiana Purchase was the Mississippi River. The Louisiana Purchase allowed the U.S. Government to purchase the land from the Mississippi River to the Rocky Mountains adding an enormous land mass for new American states to be built on.
