Washington's streets from north to south, stretching away from the capitol, are numerically organized. Streets crossing diagonally are named after the states.
The streets running north and south are numbered, and the east-west streets are lettered beginning at the Capitol and extending in both directions. One thing to remember is that DC doesn't have a J Street.
