Every living organism has to have energy to move. So i guess that viruses do need energy to move about. Hope this helped! :)

Viruses float in the air until they come in contact with a host cell. The virus must invade the cell to get the energy it needs to reproduce. So yeah, they need energy, but not to live... to reproduce.
