14 4 / 5 + 1 1 / 10 = 15 + 4 / 5 + 1 / 10 = 15 + 8 / 10 + 1 / 10 = 15 + 9 / 10 = 159 / 10;

But, 31 1/2  = ( 31 * 2 + 1 ) / 2 = 63 / 2 = 315 / 10;315 / 10 - 159 / 10 = 156 / 10 = 15 6 / 10 = 15 3 / 5 space is left.
